Bernard Leon Barker Sr was born on 2 Jan 1899 in Columbia, Maury Co., TN, one of four known children born to Jacob "Jake" Barker, who had been born on 15 Jan 1861 in Russia and Jeannette Gundersheimer, who had been born on 13 Nov 1864 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA. Jeannetta's parents are thought to have come from Mittelsinn, a community in the Main-Spessart district in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) in the Kingdom of Bavaria.

By 1910 he was off to Louisana and then to Florida. In Florida he met and married Alicia "Alice" Maria Terry y Jimenez. by this time Bernard was spending more time in Cuba than the United States as the Cool Dealer for Cuban Coal Co., Havana, Cuba.

Bernard and Alicia had two children:

1. Alicia Jeanette Barker(21 Oct 1914,Ciego de Avila, Ciego de Avila Province, Cuba to 28 Aug 1987,Port Jefferson, Suffolk Co., NY. Alicia married John William Vogt (02 Apr 1917, Astoria, Queens Co., NY to 18 Oct 1967, Middletown, Orange Co., NY)

2. Bernard Leon Barker Jr. (17 Mar 1917, Havana, La Habana Province, Cuba to 05 Jun 2009,Miami, Miami-Dade Co., FL)

Alicia "Alice" Maria Terry y Jimenez divorced Bernard Leon Barker Sr prior to 1924, and Bernard married Rosa B Cobos y Barna who had been born on 30 Jun 1907 in Cádiz, Spain.

Bernard and Rosa had two children:

1. Gustavo Leon Barker y Cobos, was born on 1 Nov 1925 in Marianao. La Habana Province, Cuba. Gustavo joined the US Army on 13 Jan 1944 and reported to Camp Blanding, Florida for training. No further record of him has been found.

2. Rosa A. M. Barker y Cobos, was born 16 Jan 1927 in Havana, La Habana Province, Cuba. No further record of her has been found.

Bernard Barker Sr. was making trips between Cuba and the United States all from 1916 through the 1930's in connection with his being Vice-President of the Cuban Coal Co., Havana, Cuba, which were too numerous to list here.

Bernard Leon Barker Sr lived in Cuba most of his life, though he never renounced his United States citizenship. He died on at 7:00 am. 6 Nov 1945 at No. 20 Santa Catalina St., Marianao, La Habana Province, Cube of "Myocarditis." His personal effects were given to his wife Rosa C. Barker at that same address.

Bernard was buried in the United Hebrew Congregation Ashkenazi Cemetery at Guanabacoa, Havana
