Man Takes Own Life 4 Days After Wife's Suicide
An Alaska steamfitter, whose young wife committed suicide Saturday at Fairbanks, took his own life in Seattle today after he had driven his automobile day and night from Fairbanks to meet his wife's body, arriving here by plane.
The victim was Bruce Anderson, 32. Coroner John P. Brill, Jr., said Anderson was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning at 6 o'clock this morning in his automobile, parked in front of the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell, 11334 Corliss Ave.
Brill said Anderson, after making arrangements at Fairbanks for sending the body of his wife, Donna Mae, 20, to Seattle by air, headed for Seattle by car, with his father.
The two arrived here last night, Brill said. Anderson left his father at Edmonds and then notified his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mae Mitchell, he was driving to her home.
A neighbor notified Mrs. Mitchell this morning that an automobile with a garden hose extending into the interior from the exhaust pipe, was parked in front of her home. Mrs. Mitchell found her son-in-law dead.
"I can't understand why Donna Mae committed suicide," Mrs. Mitchell said. "She and Bruce had been happily married two years."
Mrs. Mitchell said her daughter had been in Fairbanks with her husband and his father four months, and had worked hard preparing a new home to live in.
"She might have overworked and had a breakdown," Mrs. Mitchell said.
