Mrs. James E.Cameron died yesterday afternoon at Menominee, Mich., after an illness of only about two weeks. Peritonitis was the Immediate cause of her death, although her health had not been good for many months. Tho suddenness of her taking off, however, makes the death peculiarly sad, and a gloom has been cast over an unusually large circle of friends, among whom Mrs. Cameron was highly esteemed, and from whom there now flows out the sincerest sympathy for a sorrowing husband and two small children who are left to mourn. Of the children, Grace, the older, Is about three and one-half years of age, and Wells, the younger, about five months.

Probably no death which has occurred in this vicinity during the past few years, has caused more general regret than that of Mrs. Cameron, an exceptionally popular woman. She was the youngest daughter of the late Rev. George W. Wells, at one time pastor of the First Methodist church of this city and, in later years, the presiding elder of the Oshkosh district. In her girlhood she was Frances Wells, and the news of her death, before she had finished the twenty-fifth year of her age, will be learned with sorrow, not only here, but at Whitewater, Janesville and other places, where her father preached, and where she had many admirers among the young people. For Mrs. Cameron's pleasant disposition was enhanced by an attractive appearance and womanly beauty that won her the love of all who knew her.

It was only a few weeks ago during the holiday season that Mrs. Cameron visited in Oshkosh, and at that time she was apparently in good health, although to her intimate friends It was known that she had been receiving medical treatment for some weeks previous. At no time, however, was her condition regarded as critical, until last Wednesday or Thursday, when her sister, Miss Grace Wells, was summoned to her bedside, Mrs. Cameron had been in the care of Dr. Phillips of Menomonee, but her situation became so alarming on Saturday that Dr. Steele of this city was summoned to attend her. He arrived yesterday morning at eight o'clock, but the patient was beyond human heip and she sank rapidly until two o'clock when she died.

She was unconscious when she passed away, and the sorrowful picture of her little boy crying for her to take him as her life ebbed from her, was a heart-rending scene which those who witnessed never care to see repeated.

Mrs. Cameron was born at Albion Prairie, near Edgerton, Wisconsin, and had she lived until the 24th day of next May, she would have been twenty-five years of age. About six years ago she was married to James E. Cameron, at one time with the Campbell & Cameron company of this city, but later superintendent for the Girard Lumber company of Menominee. Mrs. Cameron had resided in the latter city since last March.

The remains arrived In Oshkosh this afternoon over the Chicago & Northwestern line, and were taken to the home of Mrs. George W. Wells on Division street, where they will be until the funeral, which will take place probably Wednesday afternoon from the First Methodist church, of which Mrs. Cameron was a member.

It is a singular fact that just one year ago tomorrow night the remains of Mrs. W. C. Cameron, the wife of a brother of James Cameron, arrived in Oshkosh from Colorado.
