Andrew Edwards, 87, former Newburgh baker who in recent years had been employed in the finishing mill here, died at his home here this morning, after a brief illness.

Mr. Edwards, who was born in New York City had made his home for 75 years in Newburgh and came to this village 12 years ago. He was a member of the Union Presbyterian church and the Veteran Firemen's association of Newburgh. In September 1934, with Mrs. Edwards, the former Katherine Toleman, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Edwards is survived by a son, Walter Edwards of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Jane, wife of E. Kane Shaw of Newburgh and Agnes, wife of Merlin Tice of this village; a sister, Mrs. Janet Wolf of Chula Vista, Cal.; five grandchildren, Betty Shaw of Newburgh and Louise, Earlene, Harrison and Merlin Tice, Jr. of this village; two nieces and five nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from Perrott's Funeral Home, Grand avenue, Newburgh at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. Seth C. Craig, pastor of the Union Presbyterian church of Newburgh will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Published in the Poughkeepsie Star Enterprise on June 10, 1939.

Note: Mr. Edwards' parents were Andrew and Agnes Edwards. His father was a baker also. He was predeceased by his sister, Agnes Edwards Fletcher and half-sister, Mary Elizabeth Edwards Benson. His half-brother, William Mills Edwards also predeceased him.

There appear to be several errors in the obituary. One of the grandchildren is Karlene, not Earlene. Also his half-sister's name was spelled as Genet.
