Well, I have fallen out of the well and hit my head on the pulley. I have departed this world a very happy man, because: “I have been there and done that”.

Yes, I have lived a wonderful life. I grew up at Miller Ridge during the last part of the “Depression Era” in 1935. We were not ignorant poor folks. Most of us were poor uneducated folks that lived off the lands. We didn’t have electricity, running water or indoor plumbing, no telephones or screens on the windows and yes, supposedly walked five miles to school in the heat of summer and the cold of winter and it was uphill in both directions. We did have a pair of horses, a wagon and a few tools.

You helped your neighbor who had a need. Our friends in Miller Ridge were a very close knit community.

Once during WW II, my 2 older brothers quit school and joined the Navy. My family could not get any mail from the boys. My dad suffered a heart attack. It was in the planting time of crops. RB(Dobie) Lattimore and Fred Christopher helped mom and me put in the crops because dad was in the hospital in Muskogee. Our good neighbors would come by and help mom, my little sister and me every day. Many of you who have come to my funeral were there.

You are still my family, “The Wonderful People of Miller Ridge”. Haven’t we had some wonderful times together?

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 22 at Forever Memories Funeral Services of Sallisaw.
