Drumheller Review, Friday, December 20, 1929:
Thomas Campbell, a miner, was instantly killed about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Western Gem Company's mine on the north side of the river. It appears that three empty cars, in charge of one of the drivers, got out of control and Campbell, who happened to be at the neck of his working place, was struck by cars, death being instantaneous.

Deceased was a married man of 49 years of age, and leaves a wife and daughter in Blantyre, Scotland, and a son and nephew in Toronto, Ontario. He had worked at Western Gem last season, and had just returned to work again in the mine. His son and nephew also worked in the Western Gem last season.

At the inquest, it was recommended that safety devices be installed to prevent the accidental throwing of a switch at all mines.
