Actor. He was a child actor of the 1950s and 1960s who appeared alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, among them James Cagney, Barbara Stanwyck, Alan Ladd, Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Vincent Price and Donna Reed. Born Charles Herbert Saperstein, his career began when he was discovered by an agent riding on a bus while on a shopping trip with his mother. His first acting job was at age four on the television series 'Half Pint Panel' in 1952. His first movie role was in 1953's 'The Long, Long Trailer', and would go on to appear in such films as 'Ransom!' (1956), 'Gunfight at the O.K. Corral' (1957), 'The Fly' (1958), 'Houseboat' (1958), 'The Last Angry Man' (1959) and '13 Ghosts' (1960). On television, among shows he appeared in during the 1950s were 'The Bob Cummings Show', 'It's a Good Life', 'Playhouse 90', 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents', 'The Jack Benny Program', 'Tombstone Territory', 'M Squad', and 'Riverboat'. As a teen in the 1960s, he made TV appearances on classic series including 'Wagon Train', 'Rawhide', 'The Twilight Zone', 'Family Affair' and 'My Three Sons'. Herbert, whose career amassed twenty feature films, dozens of TV shows and a number of commercials during his 14-year span, died of heart failure.
