Author. He was a bestselling novelist known particularly for his crime novels set in Ystad, Sweden, and featuring Inspector Kurt Wallander. He spent a large part of his life in Africa (Mozambique, Zambia, elsewhere) and considered it a second home. His more than 40 novels sold more than 40 million copies. He was the son-in-law of director, writer, and producer Ingmar Bergman.
