Rosetta Delorse "Del" (Gorden) Selby was born on August 30, 1916 in Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee, the daughter of Reverend Henry Payton "H P" Gorden (1888–1963) and Carrie Lee (Hill) Gorden (1896–1981).
She was married about late May 1942 in Robertson County, Tennessee as the 2nd wife of Houghton Hurd "H H" Selby (1913-1972), the son of Dr E A Selby of Baltimore, Maryland.
Living in Nashville, Tennessee, Del was 63 years old and a widow when she passed away on March 9, 1980 at home.
Survivors included her mother Mrs Carrie Hill Gorden, a son in Atlanta, Georgia, sister Mrs Frances Haith at Kansas City, Missouri, brothers Henry Warren Gorden in Nashville and William Cordell Gorden of Jackson, Mississippi, a Selby grandson in Atlanta, brother-in-law Dr Philmore Haith, sisters-in-law Mrs Vivian Gorden and Mrs Alyce E Garcia of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mrs Olive Caulker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, father-in-law Dr E A Selby at Philadelphia, a daughter-in-law and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held on March 12th at Gorden Memorial Methodist Church, and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashville.
