Raymond Wittman
May 20, 1928 - August 15, 2015

Cumberland, MD - Raymond Wittman, 87, of Cumberland, MD - beloved husband, father and grandfather - joyfully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 15, 2015 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born May 20, 1928 in New York, NY, Raymond was the much-loved only child of Edward and Elizabeth (Revesz) Wittman.
He was the first generation American citizen of his immediate family who emigrated from Hungary. Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years: Emily Lee (Wheeler) Wittman; three children: Kenneth W. Wittman, Winter Park, FL; Nora L. Wittman and husband, Murry Packer, Jacksonville, FL; Marcialyn T. Heath, Parsberg, Germany; two much-loved grandchildren: Lukas and Amelia Heath.
Mr. Wittman was an active member of the LaVale United Methodist Church since 1966, having served as chairperson of the Church Council, Certified Lay Speaker, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Usher, board of trustees and staff-parish relations committees.
He was a dedicated and passionate supporter of the church's Food Pantry for 10+ years. Ray graduated from Mt. Lakes High School and attended Newark College of Engineering in New Jersey, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years.
He graduated from the University of Florida, where he met his wife on a blind date bug hunting. Ray began his career at Armstrong Tire & Rubber Company in Natchez, MS, joined Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, OH, and transferred to Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Company in Cumberland, MD, from whence he retired in 1977.
Ray and his wife, Emily, were avid travelers, having visited 70 countries. They enjoyed becoming acquainted with citizens' daily lives/religions, and sharing their many photos and stories with others.
He was a member of the Western Maryland Photography Association and the Civil War Roundtable of Allegany County. Ray was an avid gardener, collector, and enthusiastic bridge player.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, August 20, 2015, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
A memorial service will be conducted at the LaVale United Methodist Church, Friday, August 21, 2015, at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Frankie Revell officiating.
Interment will be at the Tustenuggee Methodist Church, Ft. White, FL. Memorials in Ray's memory may be made to the LaVale United Methodist Church, 565 National Highway, LaVale, MD 21502; or Tustenuggee Methodist Church.
