Author. Born in Sevilla, Andalucia, Spain, he was a journalist, essayist and noted translator. Of Spanish and Jewish origins ("sefardíes"), he wrote the essay about this matter "Los Judíos en la Literatura Española." Also, he is remembered for his books "El Pobre Baby," "El Candelabro de los Siete Brazos," "La Novia Escamoteada," "La Copla Andaluza" and "La Huelga de los Poetas." After the Spanish Civil War, Assens's writing was banned in Spain and he began what he called his "internal exile", which lasted until his death.
