Or, Anglo-Irish navvy came to Christchurch, how early isn't clear; 1870s to work on railway and Lyttelton tunnel perhaps? - in 1890, according to burial record, which is wrong.* Housing record predates that, from 1882 on in King Street, Sydenham, as do all the progeny born here after 1881. Likely transition through Linwood-based horse-and-carting out of labouring origins, through coal distribution and into much tidier taxi-cab work. Home sewing work a parallel for the women of the home, as self-employed seamstresses. Final years in a Sumner care home.
