First recorded Jewish burial discovered to date at this cemetery.
Cause of death, Dysentry
Date of death is date of burial.
The Burial book includes an entry for a burial in this exact spot, between Elizabeth Ann Rosenberg Zerner (the sister) and Hans Juergens (graves which were still in place in September 2019)
The Burial book description of the (former) grave is:
'A gravestone with an illegible inscription and a design with flowers'
What was thought to be flowers may well have been a small tree, which typically forms part of the grave of a Jewish child, either as an image on the grave or (as is very common in the US) a headstone that is made in the shape of a tree trunk (the symbolism being that the tree was cut off too soon)
This design can be seen on the headstones of both Joseph and Sheva Gerson, buried in this cemetery.
