City of Avalon Harbor Patrol Officer Timothy Mitchell was killed in a maritime accident during high winds and rough seas. Mitchell courageously attempted to save the King Neptune as she parted four mooring lines and was swept to Step Beach. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful due to the perilous conditions.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015, 10:00 am at Casino Dive Park. Burial at Sea will be at 12:00 pm at Little Farnsworth followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm at the M resturant. Transportation will be provided to and from the island by Catalina Express. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made in Timothy's name to the Avalon Harbor Employees Association, PO Box 1085, Avalon, CA 90704.
