Sportscar Racing driver. Born in Strasbourg, France, Bob Wollek became a legend in sportscar racing winning regularly in his favourite Porsches. During his thirty years in the sport, he won the Daytona 24hr races four times, scores of other top flight races, invariably in private-run Porsche cars rather than the factory teams. Wollek never managed to win the Le Mans 24hr race despite coming close during his thirty attempts. Wollek was a legend in sportscars and much admired by everyone. In 2001 whilst leaving the Sebring circuit in Florida after practise for the 12hr race, he was riding his bicycle when he was struck from behind my a camper van. After three decades of dangerous motor racing, he was killed in a road accident.
