Jewel Templeton, age 95 of Winchester, died Thursday, February 8, 2007 at her residence. She was born in Winchester, the daughter of the late Roy Wilson and Ann Harper Wilson. She was a nurserywoman, last employed by Mystic Bubble. She was a beloved wife and mother, an intrepid adventurer, a first-ascent mountain climber, a member of the Canadian and American Alpine Club, a white water kayak and formula car racer, an airplane pilot, a cross-country skier, a cave explorer, a member of the National Speleological Society, a world traveler, and owner of Buzzy the Buzzard, Jane Crow, and numerous domestic and wild animals. She and her late husband, Harvey, founded the Garden Association for the beautification of Winchester and Franklin County. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Templeton was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey M. Templeton, Jr.. She is survived by three daughters, Jill Sideman of Tiburon, California, Avery Loyd of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Ann Cameron of Sewanee; two sons, Harvey M. Templeton III of Cleveland and Handly C. Templeton of Winchester; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services and interment were conducted Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Winchester Memorial Park in Winchester. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
