Major League Baseball Player. He was the backup catcher for the New York Yankees' Bill Dickey for 11 years, and cashed five World Series winners' checks without ever getting into the Fall Classic. Born in Modum, Norway, he broke in with the Yankees in 1929. The right-handed hitter got into 285 games during his career, and batted .238 with four homers and 89 runs batted in. His winning Series shares came in 1932 and from 1936 to 1939. His brother Orville pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1935 to 1937.
