Motor racing driver. Joseph Gibson 'Joe' Fry was born in Winterbourne, Gloucestershire, and was a sprint and hillclimb specialist. His 'Freikaiserwagen Special' was fitted with an 1100cc supercharged Blackburn engine and was one of the fastest sprint/hillclimb cars in the country. He raced in the 1950 British GP at Silverstone when he shared a Maserati 4CL with Brian Shawe-Taylor and came 10th. He fatally crash his special a few weeks later when he lost control of his difficult car on a long, fast bend at a hillclimb at Blandford Camp, Dorset.
