They were active members in their community, participated in political and religious activities in the Peoria Christian Reformed and Taintor Methodist Churches, and were members of the Larks' Club where they gathered for hearty singing of hymns and Dutch Psalms and socializing.
Andrew continued the tradition of discussing politics, religion, farming and families. He did some barbering in the basement for family and friends and was a salesman for McCurdy seed corn.
They retired to Fairhaven in Pella in 1967. Andrew passed away with cancer on Aug. 15, 1967. Jennie continued the tradition of enjoying family and friends even after she moved to the Pella Nursing Home where she passed away Aug. 1, 1979, her body crippled with arthritis but her mind sharp until the end. Whether it was her relatives, her many friends or neighbors, she welcomed them all.
