Motor racing driver. Ronald James Bucknum was born at Alhambra, California. He started motor racing in 1955 and won the Sports Car Club of America titles in 1959, 1960, 1962 and 1964, winning 44 out of 48 races. Plucked from comparative obscurity by Honda engineers to race their new F1 car in the 1964 German Grand Prix. Highest place was a 5th at the 1965 Mexican GP, won that year by US team mate Richie Ginther. Drove a Carroll Shelby Ford GT40 to 3rd place at the 1966 Le Mans 24hr Race. Died of the after effects of diabetes at the early age of 56.
