Soviet dancer. He studied in Leningrad and joined the Kirov where he became one of its greatest principals. He was shown off to an exceptional degree in the Blue Bird role. However he also performed the classic Prince and noble roles. He created several new ballets and was made People's Artist of the USSR. But, trapped in the stagnent artistic and political climate, it all got too much and he committed suicide. It is left to the imagination where his career would have taken him.
