Major League Baseball Player. The left-handed pitcher had brief stints with Chicago in 1935 and 1936 and was 7-7 in 1937 before being traded by the Cubs to the St. Louis Cardinals with Curt Davis, Tuck Stainbuck and $185,000 for Dizzy Dean on April 16, 1938. He led the National League in appearances in 1939 and 1940, pitching both in the rotation and in relief. Shoun was sold to Cincinnati on May 6, 1942 and had his best year in 1943 with a 14-5 record and 3.06 earned run average. He also led the league with 13 victories in relief. He was a starter the following year and compiled a 13-10 record, 3.02 ERA and 202 innings pitched. That year on May 15, he pitched a no-hitter against the Boston Braves. He was 13-10 in 1944 and was sold to the Braves on June 7, 1947. He finished his career with the Chicago White Sox in 1949. He was 73-59 with a 3.91 ERA for 14 years in the big leagues.
