US Congressman. Moving to Maine, he engaged in mercantile pursuits, was assessor of Pownal Borough, in 1786 and town clerk of New Milford, Maine, (1795-97). He also was judge of the court of common pleas for Lincoln County, (1799-1810) and overseer of Bowdoin College, (1800-05). In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Congresses, serving until 1811. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was Sheriff of Lincoln County, in 1811 and Postmaster of Wiscasset, Maine, until his death at age 56.
