Sister Rosa Daly, age 95, died July 1, 2014 at Villa Saint Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She was born on June 12, 1919 in Washington, DC. Sister was the youngest of 5 children born to Timothy and Susan Daly. She had four brothers.
Sister Rosa joined the Daughters of Charity On December 21, 1937. Her first mission was St. Vincent School in Detroit, Michigan (1939-1940). After leaving St. Vincent's Sister taught at St. Martin School, Baltimore Maryland (1940-1944); De Paul Medical Center, Norfolk Virginia (1944-1945); St. Vincent's Hospital, Bridgeport, Connecticut (1945-1949); St. Vincent's Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida (1949-1957); Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo, New York (1957-1969); Providence Hospital, Washington DC (1969-1975); St. Joseph Provincial House, Emmitsburg, Maryland (1975-1988), where for 6 years she served as Provincial Treasurer; Villa Saint Michael, Emmitsburg where she served as Administrator and Sister Servant (1988-1992); and Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland 1992-2004). Sister was missioned to Villa Saint Michael in 2004. Sister's ministry was a ministry of prayer, but she also enjoyed helping in the sewing room of St. Joseph House until the time of her death.
Sister is the last member of her immediate family. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no wake service. Viewing will take place prior to the Mass in the Basilica foyer.
