Hilligje van der Hoek (= of the Corner) was born in December 1897 in the former -until 2000- country municipality of Avereest, located in the northern part of the Dutch eastern province Overijssel, daughter of Roelof van der Hoek (26 y, laborer) and Lammigje Perfors. On 12 December 1919 Hilligje van der Hoek (= of the Corner) married in municipality Ambt Hardenberg, located in the northeastern part of the Dutch eastern province Overijssel, at the age of 21 years the one year younger farmer Jan Bos, born in the country village of Oude Pekela, situated in the eastern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen.

They had the following seven children Bos:
* Jan (John), 19 April 1920, Ommen, Overijssel;
* Lammigje (Lula), 30 April 1922, Avereest, Overijssel;
* Elizabeth (Liz), 27 June 1924, Avereest, Overijssel;
* Grietje (Grace), 4 August 1927, Neerlandia, Barrhead County, Alberta, Canada;
* Roelof (Ralph), 8 February 1932, Vega, Barrhead County, Alberta, County;
* Bertha Gerda (Betty), 26 July 1935, Vega, Barrhead County, Alberta, Canada
* William John (Bill), 28 November 1942, Barrhead, Barrhead County, Alberta, Canada.

Between June 1924 and August 1927 his wife Hilligje van der Hoek, her husband Bertus Bos and their two first children emigrated to the agrarian hamlet Neerlandia, located in central Alberta, Canada within the County of Barrhead, between Mellowdale and Vega, approximately 20 kilometers north of Barrhead and northwest of Westlock. Neerlandia was founded by Dutch immigrants beginning in 1911. The name "Neerlandia" refers to the first settlers' country of origin, the Netherlands. The surrounding area is largely agricultural based with many people in the out-lying area also being involved in construction and other trades as well.

Hilligje aka Hilda died in August 1945 at the age of 47 years, probably in or near Neerlandia. Her widower Bertus Bos died in February 1980 at the age of 81 years in Barrhead, the seat of Barrhead County, Alberta, Canada.
