Robert (Bob) McGregor McIntyre was born in Scotstoun near Glasgow, Scotland. He was a very fast and hard rider, he either did well or his bike broke down with mechanical problems. Some thought he rode his bikes too hard. In 1957 the 'ton' was like the four minute mile for athletes. The exitement at the prestigious Isle of Man Senior race was immense as the hard-riding Scotsman recorded the first over 100mph lap on his 500cc Gilera (101.03mph). He joined the Honda team in 1961 and although he led races and set fastest laps, he retired in every race for them. But as the man who broke the 100mph lap record, his name went down in history. In a race as Oulton Park, Cheshire, endeavouring to catch the leader Derek Minter, his bike went straight on at Clay Hill Corner. He bike went into a bank and he was thrown into a tree. He died a few days later.
