Agnes was born into a gentrified Suffolk family, two years after the birth of her sister Elizabeth. Her literary career began with poetry, such as 'The Seven Ages Of Woman' and 'Worcester Field', but she found her true niche in historical writing with her sister. Although much of the research and writing for such fare as 'The Pilgrims of walsingham' and 'Lives Of The Queens' can be attributed to Elizabeth, the younger sister preferred to stay in the background and allow Agnes to be the public face. Her historical writing suffers from a lack of objectivity, but in hindsight it can tell us a good deal about the attitudes of Regency and Victorian Britain.
