Professional Basketball Player. For ten seasons (1958 to 1960 and 1963 to 1971), he played at the center position in the National Basketball Association with the Syracuse Nationals, Philadelphia 76ers, San Francisco Warriors and Cincinnati Royals. Born Conrad William Dierking, Jr., he made his initial mark on the hardwood floor during his years at Central High School in Valley Stream, New York. He continued his athletic excellence on the collegiate level at the University of Cincinnati. As a Bearcat, he earned All-American status and was a key player with the Cincinnati squad which captured the first NCAA Tournament berth in the program's history in 1958. He set a school record for rebounds in one game with 33, when he accomplished this feat in a contest against Loyola on February 16, 1957. To date, this total still stands. Selected by Syracuse as the 5th overall pick during the first round of the 1958 NBA Draft, he played in 706 regular season games and compiled 7,094 points with 4,757 rebounds. For three seasons (1960 to 1963), Dierking played in the American Basketball League. He was part of a trade in 1965 involving the 76ers and Warriors for which sent Wilt Chamberlain back to Philadelphia. Dierking's best body of work happened while he was in a Royals' uniform, as he produced three consecutive seasons in which he topped the 1,000 points-scored mark (1967 to 1970). He was named to the James P. Kelly University of Cincinnati Athletics Hall of Fame in 1986.
