Ensayist, journalist and editor from Puerto Rico. Son of merchant Salvador Alejandro Tió Malaret, from San Germán and Teresa Montes de Oca Branderis, from Arroyo, who married in the town of Ponce in 1905.

Don Salvador used the word "spanglish" for the first time. He was president of Ateneo Puertorriqueño and of Academia Puertorriqueña de la Lengua, and Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña had him in its leadership team. Wrote the children story titled "El beso de Melchor".
