Dickran Gorgodian was the son of Garabed? and Almas Chavooshian Gorgodian. He had a number of siblings, including Oscar, Paris, Levon, and Nevart. Dickran's death certificate lists his father's name as Hagop, while the family tree say it was Garabed. The death certificate also lists his mother's name as Mariam Torosian, so it's possible the informant was wrong as it is unlikely the family tree would be incorrect about Dickran being connected to them. According to family history, both his parents and all his siblings were killed in the Armenian Genocide, though its possible some might have survived unknown to their relatives. What happened to the family during this time is unknown, but Dickran survived and in 1920, a Dickran Gordogian (presumably him) came through Ellis Island to join a "brother, Maksoud Gorgodian" in New York. It is unknown if Maksoud was an actual brother not listed in the family tree or possibly a cousin saying they were brothers on the manifest.

In his 1942 draft registration card he is living with Charles Gorgodian, Charles could always be an Americanized version of Maksoud or be another relative. Charles was also from Sivas, so they were at least cousins. Many of Dickran's extended maternal family members were living in New York as well. According to his death certificate, Dickran had lived in California for the past five years. In 1920 he was listed as a goldsmith, and his 1948 death certificate lists him as a jeweler.
