Specializing in local history, especially graveyards and the artwork on the headstones of early new England graves. She wrote "Gravestones of Early New England, and the Men Who Made Them, 1653-1800," originally published in 1927 and
republished multiple times after her death in 1951. Her other book was "New England Diaries, 1602-1800: A Descriptive Catalogue of Diaries, Orderly Books and Sea Journals" published in 1923.

The American Antiquarian Society has archived her collection of photographs of local historical houses and other structures which consists of over 850 negatives and have made many of them available online. The society also has a collection of many of her documents, including manuscripts, essays, maps, drawings, records, and other written works.
