Roman Catholic Saint. During his life he was, amongst other things, a canon of Barcelona Cathedral, student and teacher at the University of Bologna, counsellor to King James I, confessor to Pope Gregory IX, and an eminent jurist. His advice was often sought by the great, and he was recognized as an authority on moral questions in every field in which he was involved. From the time of his death, he was spontaneously venerated. Pope Innocent VIII officially declared him a saint on April 29, 1601. His memorial day is celebrated on January 7.
