Funeral Held Saturday For W. F. "Bill" Cowin

Funeral service for W. F. (Bill) Cowin, 78, of Van Buren, was held here Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McSpadden Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Cowin passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 14, at the Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff. He had been in ill health for the past few years. Death was due to uremic poisoning.

A retired businessman, Mr. Cowin had spent his lifetime in Van Buren. He was born here Feb. 27th, 1890, and on April 7th, 1909, he was married to Sarah Iva Rector at Clear Springs. His wife died in June of 1967.

Survivors are five sons, Elmer, Earl, Norman, Morgan and Rector; one daughter Mrs. Ancil Sanders; 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; six brothers, Charles, John, Oral, Luther, Oather and Marion; two sisters, Bessie and Ethel.

Rev. Toney Lewis officiated at the funeral service and burial was in the Van Buren Cemetery.

The measure of a man is not his worldly goods, but rather the manner in which he conducts his life. Bill Cowin can well be measured by the way he reared his children. There is no doubt, he did an excellent job.
