This cemetery, which no longer exists, was established in 1816 by John Pott when he laid out the plans for Pottsville. He donated to the people a plot of land between Centre on the east and Second on the west and the two alleys now called High Street and Laurel Alley to be used as a place for burial and for school and religious purposes. The present day Schuylkill County Historical Society property is the approximate location of the burial grounds.

At one point, a stone wall surrounded the burial grounds, but it was taken down to expand the existing grammar school.

Burials ceased in the 1850s and in 1895, approximately 500 bodies were exhumed and reinterred, mostly in the Presbyterian Cemetery. The cemetery was covered over for a playground for the grammar school.

Names in this cemetery were listed among burial records of the Trinity Episcopal Church, although the Pott Burial Ground was a non-denominational graveyard. All burials in this cemetery have been reinterred, mostly to the Presbyterian Cemetery, but unless there's a tombstone there or at another cemetery, they will remain listed here to memorialize the burial grounds.
