Pohja Cemetery is situated by the Church of Saint Mary's (Pyhän Marian Kirkko), which was built in the late 1400's.
Pohja is a former municipality of Finland. It was consolidated with Ekenäs (Tammisaari) and Karis (Karjaa) to form the new town of Raseborg (Raasepori) in 2009. It is located in the province of Southern Finland and is part of the Uusimaa region.
The municipality was bilingual, with majority being Finnish (60%) and minority Swedish (40%) speakers. Pohja is one of the birthplaces of Finnish metal industry. Fiskars Corporation was founded near Pohja in 1649 and remains the largest employer in municipality area to date.
Many of the iron gravemarkers used in the Pohja Cemetery were made in the Fiskars Ironworks. Nowadays Fiskars if best known for the ergonomic scissors with orange plastic handles, which have been manufactured since 1967.
