The son of George & Elizabeth (Schomber) Klinger.

In 1860, he was a farmer presumably living in Upper Mahantongo Township, Schuylkill County.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at Pottsville, Schuylkill County, October 17, 1864, as a substitute, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. H, 76th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 18, 1865.

He married Elvina Louisa Dodson in 1867 and fathered John (b. 11/22/65), William (b. 12/??/67), David Francis (b. 10/21/72), Mary Anna (b. 07/25/75), George Morris (b. 01/15/79), and Lizzie Ellen (b. 06/15/83).
