Actress. She was best known to daytime television viewers as Mrs. Whitaker, the motherly character who dispensed country wisdom from her farm kitchen on the popular daytime ABC soap opera "General Hospital" from 1982 to 1984. She started her acting and singing career as a teenager in coastal New Jersey. In 1955, she appeared on the Broadway stage for the first time as an extra for the play "Inherit the Wind," later taking on the role of Mrs. Brady in the last months of the show's production. She went on to act in regional theater for much of her career, appearing on stage in various cities around the nation. In 1962, she made her television debut on the television series "The Donna Reed Show." In addition to "General Hospital," she went on to appear in such television shows as "Mr. Belvedere," "Quantum Leap," "Beyond Belief," "Hart to Hart," "Simon and Simon," "Highway to Heaven" and "The Waltons." She also appeared on the "big screen" in such films as "Where Love Has Gone," "Fitzwilly," "Kandyland," and "Back to School."
