William was christened April 12, 1857 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. William's address was at 309 Prince, Alexandria. He also had a country home in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Katherine was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, and William was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
According to Mrs Sophia Ford (Tackett) Blanton (1892), his niece, William was said to have been a bit of a "cad". He had a good voice, was good looking and had a way with the ladies. He went through considerable family money, which was Nannie's (his sister Nannie Lee (Fendall) Tackett (1853-1940). "All Alexandria knew about it at the time". Nannie stuck up for him. Mrs. Blanton was even emotional about defending Willie to this day (1967). Mrs. Lily Lawrence Rust Fendall (1880) in Leesburg, Virginia, had a reference to Willie about him being a "bounder" or some such adjective. ("Taken from interview conducted by Col. Bill Gray Fendall (1918) at the home of Fendall Marbury III (1897-1973), in 1967").

Lily married first in about 1873, Algernon Coleman Chalmers, Sr. (1857-1890), son of David Chalmers and Sarah Embry Coleman.

Katherine married first, Frank Addison Brastow, Sr. (1865-1905), son of Louis Cornette Brastow (1826-1893) and Mary Wooley Longstreet (1832).
