Born in Crow Hollow - Glen Carbon, he was a son of the late Gregory and Anna Paroby Samilo.
Stephen attended Cass Township High School, a machinist trade school, and the school of hard knocks.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was deployed to Okinawa, Japan.
Stephen retired as a Tool & Die Operator from Alcoa, Cressona and was also a Coal Miner.
He was a man that honored and loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, and his family.
Stephen was an active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Minersville, his entire life and the Holy Name Society.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years: Veronica A. Stefanick Samilo on July 21, 2005; his sisters: Anna Samilo, Mary Heffron, Katherine Warischalk, Julie Bonchalk, Sarah Hashin, Sophie Samilo, and Nellie Ehlinger; and, his brothers: Harry, John, and Michael Samilo;
Surviving are Stephen's daughters: Stephanie Sobolesky of Malvern, Deborah Davenport and her husband, Jefferson of Harrisburg, and Rosalyn Dukmen and her husband, John of Pottsville; his granddaughters: Anisa Sobolesky of Buck Run, Martina Sobolesky and Carlisa Sobolesky both of Malvern, and Lauren Nicole Dukmen of Pottsville; and, his sister: Mildred Washtician of Jonestown.
A Requiem Divine Liturgy will celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Minersville, with the Rev. Mark Fesniak officiating. Visitation will be held from 08:30 to 10:00 AM in Mahal - Ritzel Funeral Home, Inc., Minersville. There shall be no calling hours Monday evening.
Interment will be in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
