A Virtual Cemetery created by Janet A Willis Weidner

Willis Cemetery (U. S. Grant & Grace Brewer)

This virtual cemetery will bring together the names of the children of U. S. Grant Willis and Grace Brewer Willis. The parents of U. S. Grant Willis (George W. and Annie Melvina Cook Willis) are buried in the Kirwin Cemetery, Phillips County, Kansas. Grace Brewer Willis' parents (Jacob Elmer Brewer and Annie Laurie Curtis Brewer) are buried in the Abilene Cemetery, Dickinson County, Kansas. U. S. Grant and Grace Brewer Willis were married after receiving their college degrees from Washburn College in Topeka, Kansas. The wedding was held in Grace's family home in Abilene on January 1, 1912. Grant and Grace are buried in the Kirwin Cemetery, Phillips County, Kirwin, Kansas, as are two of their five children and their spouses - namely Jane Willis Swartz and Roy Swartz and Warren Wesley Willis and Helene Jensen Willis. Another Virtual Cemetery by the name of Willis Cemetery (George W. & Annie Melvina Cook Willis) will bring together information about their 11 children and their spouses, one of whom was U. S. Grant Willis, my grandfather. These children were Adelbert, Phoebe, Alfred (Fred, Flora, Grace, Ruby, U. S. Grant, Henry, Thomas, Garnett, and Paul Willis. The siblings of these children include Hattie Cushman, Thomas E. Scott, Alice Wyrill, Robert D. Morse, Robert Arthur Stagg, Grace Brewer, and Dorothy Cogswell. Warren Willis was U. S. Grant and Grace Brewer Willis' fifth child and third son. Warren was my Dad and he passed away on August 3, 2013 at the age of 90 yrs-8 mos. Helene Jensen Willis, Mom, passed away on October 28, 2014, at the age of 90 yrs-2 mos. Both are buried near Grant and Grace Willis in the Kirwin Cemetery. U. S. Grant Willis was my grandfather who died when Dad was 16 years old so I never had the opportunity to meet him. Grace Brewer, my grandmother or Dad's mother, died when I was 11 years old and as the oldest child I do have memories of her.Dad and his brothers and sisters never forgot their Kansas roots. My family wishes to acknowledge the efforts of Barbara Bowman, a contributor to this "Find A Grave" website, who has typed up many of the obituaries of the Willis family. I want to acknowledge all that my Aunt Jane Willis Swartz and her family, particularly Mary Grace Elliott, her daughter, have done to preserve the Willis history and care for the family headstones in the Kirwin Cemetery. Aunt Ann Willis Gaumer Dimond also tracked the Willis genealogy and kept many of the family photos that appear on our memorial pages. Dad, as the youngest child of this family, felt compelled to keep this information up-to-date until his death. I hope to carry on for him now that I am retired.- Janet Willis Weidner - 6/11/15 - Colorado Springs, CO - [email protected]
