Find a Grave ID

Bio

Ballarat Old and New Cemeteries deceased search is available at http://www.ballaratcemeteries.com.au/ The database can have additional information such as all interments in a given plot.
** If there is no grave number on Find A Grave, please do not expect volunteers to do your research. Check the cemetery database and if the grave details are found, request an edit to include it on the Find A Grave record.

I will try and locate the plot or general location of unmarked graves using the database for details of nearby graves. Photos will be posted so others know a search has been carried out to find the location.

FindAGrave allows a maximum number of 21 claims per cemetery which I do at a time. I tend to work in areas rather than when the request was made so please do not think I am deliberately missing any for any other reason than making the walk a little easier.

BALLARAT NEW CEMETERY -
** Location Not Known, LONK, Open Ground, OGNK,OG, etc. - Usually burials in Open Ground areas A, B, C, D, E, F. There are no sections or row markers and very few graves. If the grave is unmarked, it is difficult to determine the grave site, especially in A,B,C,D,E as many graves have the same vague grave number often with hundreds of burial. Ballarat Cemeteries might be able to provide further information by direct contact. Memorials have been placed in recent years, however, these are not necessarily on the actual burial plot as many are not known. There are also graves with a surname only so it is not possible to attach a photo to any particular individual.
** Open Ground A, B, C, D, E - photographed 28Sep2021 (very few headstone)
** Open Ground F - photographed 1Oct2021 - mostly infants, 1950s
** Benevolent Section - not marked on cemetery plans. There are no marked graves or defined rows/plots.
BALLARAT OLD CEMETERY
** Area A - There is only one headstone in this area, with no defined sections, rows or grave locations. This is likely to be the area when graves are recorded as "Unknown"
** Chinese Area (NW corner) - There are some headstone but all in Chinese.
