I have been researching my Wells family ancestry for over 10 years.
I currently live in Saratoga County with many relatives close by. My research has taken me to Warren County and St Lawrence County. It appears the Welles first settled in Rhode Island in the early 1600's. Assuming they came from England, possibly Holland.
