He worked as a galvanizer in the the Northworks steel mill in Worcester. He and his family lived in the nearby neighborhood on Poet's Hill known as the North End. It was a working class neighborhood full of immigrants and first generation Americans.

He would die at a young age from years of hard work and heavy drinking. Luckily for his family he had bought a home in 1896 that had 3 rental units in it and they would keep the house in the family until the 1970's.

His parents lived just up the road from his house and would see both of their sons die before them, losing their oldest and youngest child.
