Jackie Street, 48, passed away February 17, 2008, with members of his family at his side.

He was born June 17, 1959, in Macon, Georgia, and loved music from the earliest age. That love of music would take him to Nashville, Tennessee, and quickly up the ladder to become one of Music City's preeminent recording and performance bassists.

Jackie's resume reads like a who's who of music. But his friends will tell you that the man was just as talented in sharing his love of Jesus as he was on the bass. Many will testify to Street's heart, giving money to needy people, being available if someone had a need, and just having a gentle, easy spirit no matter what storm was swirling around him.

Nashville's stars had much to say about Jackie:

"That sweet man was one of the best bass players this town has ever seen." ~ Amy Grant

"Street was a fierce musician, but more than that, he had this kind and gentle way about him." ~ Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town

"Jackie Street was more than a bass player. He embodied love and compassion. As for friendship, Jackie raised the bar for all of us." ~ Marshall Chapman of Love Slaves

Stories tell of his great generosity. He gave almost all he ever made to others, wrapping one hundred dollar bills in plain paper and sending them to those who needed it more than him. He would drive old cars that were way past their time just so he could give to others. One such recipient of his gifts said, "He lived knowing that the Father would take care of him and was content to have only what he truly needed."

Another writer put it this way, "Jackie taught everyone he met, not with words, but with his character. He humbled himself before God and man and lived a quiet and servant filled life. He never asked anyone for anything. He never took anything from anyone but gave generously when no one was looking so that he would not bring attention to himself."

Jackie Street passed away from complications of diabetes.
