Services were Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial was in Wall Lake Cemetery.
Betty Ruth Blum, age 84, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Betty was born on July 16, 1928, to Floyd and Carrie (Simon) Cook at their rural home near Wall Lake. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake where she remained a lifetime member. Betty attended rural country school in Herring, IA and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1945.
On August 1, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to the love of her life, William "Bill" Bennett Blum, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake by Father Daley. They were blessed with eleven children. She was a busy mother and grandmother who loved her family so much. They completed her life. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and following football and baseball games on television.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; her children: William Jess (Becky) Blum of Sioux City; Steven Blum of Wall Lake; Craig (Lynette) Blum of Wall Lake; Toni Pfrimmer of Wall Lake; Phil Blum of Hokah, MN; Jerry (Patty) Blum of Burnsville, MN; Chuck Blum of Wall Lake; Rex Blum of Denver, CO; Joseph (Inger) Blum of Apple Valley, MN; John Blum (Laurie Owens) of Council Bluffs; and Mary Beth Lindner of Scottsdale, AZ; 28 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister Midge Hawks of Sac City and brother John (Velma) Cook of McCook Lake, SD; and many extended family members.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Mike, Roy, Harry, Bob, Cliff and Richard Cook; her sisters: Marian Jenkins, Flossie Biesch and Bernadine Kelly; and two grandchildren: Brandon Blum and Lacey Lindner.
