Charles Edward Knight , 91, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Thursday, July 7, 2011.

Mr. Knight was born April 14, 1920, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Lanzy Paul and Victoria Shifflett Knight .

He owned and operated the Sand Pit in Bridgewater for 30 years. Later, he owned and operated a lawnmower shop for 15 years.

On June 10, 1943, he married the former Nellie Kibler, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Charles Knight Jr. of Harrisonburg, Bonnie Sue Warner of Broadway, Betty L. Sampson of Harrisonburg, and John Wayne Knight of Bridgewater; two sisters, Frances Cassiday and Margie Wilfong of Harrisonburg; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Mr. Knight was preceded in death by a son, Nelson Eddie Knight .

The Rev. Karl Slye will conduct a private graveside service. The family will receive friends Saturday at the McMullen Funeral Home from 7 until 8 p.m.
