Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in Company H, 121st New York Infantry, Union Army. In actions at Deatonsville Sailor's Creek, Virginia, on April 6, 1865, Private Dockum under extreme enemy fire, rushed forward and captured the flag of Savannah Guards, Confederate Army, after two comrades had been killed in the effort. For extraordinary heroism, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on May 10, 1865.
