This monument is a cenotaph.

The son of Jacob & Catherine Albert, he married Elizabeth Foose and fathered Henry (b. 11/11/53) and Mary Ann (b. 03/11/56). In 1860, he was a tinsmith living in Spring Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 6" tall with black hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-three in Elliottsburg, Perry County, August 20, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 19 as a private with Co. H, 47th Pennsylvania Infantry. In early 1863, he was assigned as company cook. He contracted dysentery and was admitted to Barracks U.S. Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he discharged the service by surgeon's certificate to date April 18, 1864. He died aboard the U.S.S. Yazoo on his way home and buried at sea.
