FATAL ACCIDENT
A Lady Run Over and Killed by a Train at the Memphis and Louisville Railroad Depot.
Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Maria H. Bill, a resident of Chelsea, while walking on the track of the Louisville road, near Third street, was run over by a switch engine and instantly killed. From the statement of Engineer Wilson it seems that Mrs. Bill was walking on the track and got off to let a train go by and then stepped back on the track, not hearing the bell or seeing the approach of the switch engine, which instantly ran over her. Her body was found lying between the rails terribly mutilated. Justice Spelman held an inquest on the body last evening, and the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, acquitting the railway employees of all blame. Mrs. Bill was a well known and much respected resident of this city, and at the time of her death was on her way from the residence of her son, Mr. C.C. Bill, on Brinkley avenue, to the residence of her other son, Mr. N. H. Bill, a well known Front street merchant.
