Actress, and Singer. She was best known for playing the character roles of daughters, married women, cafe customers, mothers, waitresses, nurses, nuns, relatives, madames, dutch villagers, secretaries, and salvation army collectors. She will be best remembered for playing the role of a 'Dutch Villager' in the classic historical war film drama, "A Bridge Too Far" (1977). The film which was directed by Richard Attenborough, which was based on the book by Cornelius Ryan, which was written for the screen by William Goldman, and which also starred Dirk Bogarde, Ryan O'Neal, Gene Hackman, and Sean Connery, tells the story of Operation Market Garden, September 1944: The Allies attempt to capture several strategically important bridges in the Netherlands in the hope of breaking the German lines. She is also best remembered for playing the role of 'Madame Torcheboef' in the episode entitled, "Het legaat," of the television series, "Uit de wereld van Guy de Maupassant," which originally aired on January 24, 1978, and also starred Paul Meyer, Enny de Leeuwe, and Ton Kuyl. She was born as Hendrika Elisabeth van den Broek in The Hague, Netherlands, on July 21, 1923. She grew up in Scheveningen, Netherlands, and took ballet lessons. She made her debut at the Resintie Toneel at a young age but later resigned from her work for health reasons in 1950. She then took some years off away from acting due to these health reasons before returning to appear in several films and television series. She made her actual film debut playing an undetermined role in the film, "Niet tevergeefs" (1948). The film which was directed by Edmond T. Gréville, which based on a story and written for the screen by Ben van Eysselsteijn, and which also starred John Van Dreelen, Hans van Ees, Matthieu van Eysden, and Jan Teulings, tells the story of a Dutch farmer. A strong opponent of the occupying German regime, the Dutch farmer does his patriotic duty by hiding resistance leaders in his barn. His activities are threatened by his own son, an avaricious type who threatens to notify the German authorities if Lovell doesn't fork over the resistance members' valuables. While most of the cast is English, But Not in Vain is convincingly Dutch in atmosphere and point of view. The film also incorporates authentic wartime footage filmed by members of the Dutch resistance. The Dutch version of the film was the first Dutch production of a feature film after the war. Besides, playing an undetermined role in the film, "Niet tevergeefs" (1948), and playing the role of a 'Dutch Villager' in the classic historical war film drama, "A Bridge Too Far" (1977), her many other film credits include, "De dijk is dicht" (1950, with actor Kees Brusse 1925-2013), "Fast ein Held" (1967), De Blanke slavin" (1969), De inbreker" (1972), "Kapsalon" (1972), "Help, de dokter verzuipt!" (1974), "Oom Ferdinand en de toverdrank" (1974), "Zwaarmoedige verhalen voor bij de centrale verwarming" (1975), "Esther" (1975), "Flanagan" (1975), "Dood van een non" (1975), "Heb medelij, Jet!" (1975), "De dwaze lotgevallen van Sherlock Jones" (1975), "High Street" (1976), "Peter en de vliegende autobu" (1976), "Soldier Of Orange" (1977), "Picknick" (1977), "Meneer Klomp" (1978), "Tiro" (1979), "De verwording van Herman Dürer" (1979), and "Dirty Picture" (1980). Besides, playing the role of 'Madame Torcheboef' in the episode entitled, "Het legaat," of the television series, "Uit de wereld van Guy de Maupassant," which originally aired on January 24, 1978, her many other television credits include, "De kleine waarheid," "Waaldrecht," "Klaverweide," "Les enquêtes du commissaire Maigret," "Dak ik dit nog mag meemaken," (in which she also performed the song, "Lieve Klaartje"), "Hollands glorie," "Kant aan m'n broek!" and "Ons goed recht." Her last role was playing 'Johanna Vermeer' in the episode entitled, "Een hoge prijs," of the comedy crime television drama series, "Medisch Centrum West," which originally aired on January 4, 1991, and which also starred Margreet Blanken, Klaas Hofstra, Annemieke Verdoorn, Funda Müjde, and Hans Veerman. She retired from acting shortly thereafter. During her acting career, she also used the name of Hennie Alma.
